A Harry Goulding Hibiscus Hybrid from the History Park

This gorgeous hibiscus lives at the History Park in Punta Gorda.  It is a Harry Goulding hybrid.  Harry who lived in Punta Gorda cross bred over 450 varieties of hibiscus.

The Headwaters of the Peace River

One of the few pictures in this blog not taken in Punta Gorda, but, nonetheless, very important to Punta Gorda.  These are the waters that initiate the Peace River near Fort Meade in Polk County.  The Peace flows into the Charlotte Harbor Estuary about where the northbound Tamiami Trail Bridge crosses the waters.

Charles Peck Ready to Start Next Hotel Charlotte Harbor Mural on the Charlevoi

Charles Peck local Punta Gorda artist is ready to start painting the next Hotel Charlotte Harbor Mural on the other wall of the Charlevoi.  The completed mural on the west side of the building was a combination of 7 famous guests and a view of the hotel when it was actually the Hotel Punta Gorda.  The new mural will be the hotel and habor when the hotel was renovated and opened as the Hotel Charlotte Harbor.

Royal Poinciana Tree Blooms in Punta Gorda

Branch of gorgeous Royal Poinciana tree blooming on Clermont St. in Punta Gorda. The Poinciana was named for Phillippe de Longvilliers de Poincy, the 17th century governor of Saint Christophe (Saint Kitts), who is credited with introducing the plant to the Americas. In Florida the tree typically blooms in May and June... started blooming in late April this year.
