The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd traces its roots back to the town's founder. It was Virginia Issac Trabue who first encouraged the establishment of a church in what was then Trabue. Later Albert Gilchrist donated the land where the church stands now stands. The first building was built in the 1890s with funds donated by the Colt Family (the makers of the famous Colt 45).
